Remote Operations Centre Advisory

What gets designed

• Capability tier. Monitoring only, supervised remote control, full remote operation, or multi-vessel supervision. The tier you choose drives everything else, and choosing it honestly saves more money than any other decision here.
• Functional layout. Sightlines, positions, screens, audio, lighting, noise, and the physical separation between operating and everything else that happens in an office.
• Role ladder and shift pattern, including the Remote Master or equivalent, and where authority sits at every hour of the day.
• Watchkeeping, handover and logging routine, written so a tired operator at three in the morning can follow it.
• Escalation and communications. Who is called, in what order, on what trigger, and how the field team, the client and the authorities are kept informed.
• Human factors. Workload, alarm handling, fatigue, and situational awareness across more than one vessel.
• Access, visitor and information control, including where a client or defence security requirement lands on the room.
• Business continuity and IT disaster recovery. Loss of connectivity, loss of power, loss of the building, and the fallback control position.
• The risk assessments and standing orders that go with a room people work in around the clock.

What you get

A specification you can build or fit out against, sized to the tier you actually chose. The operating documents that make it a control centre rather than an office: role descriptions, watch and handover procedure, escalation matrix, standing orders. And a continuity plan with a fallback position that has been thought through rather than assumed.

How it runs

Either a fixed piece of work with an agreed output, or embedded support through design, fit-out and first operations.

This covers new centres, a second centre in another country, and existing rooms that have quietly grown past the model they were built for. The third case is the most common.
